A tiny meow was heard at a gas station, but no one could track exactly where it was coming from. Staff was alerted, and soon after, they realized that the kitten was trapped inside a wall, meowing for help. They called a local State Emergency Service (SES) rescue unit who came to rescue the poor kitty. Rescuers located the kitten and shined their flashlight on him so they could begin to think of the best possible way to get him out.

“There are no houses near where he was found,” said Heidi Groom, SES volunteer. “We can only assume he’s been dumped.” The kitten was wedged in a wall between a vacant plumbing store and the gas station. The hole he was in was pretty deep, and he would never have been able to get out on his own.

The rescuers tried making different tools, using ropes, to give the kitten something to grab onto or climb on. Finally, they tied a sack to the end of a rope, and the kitten stood on it and held on. It was almost like he knew he was being rescued. They picked him up and brought him to safety. He was very tiny, covered in water, and freezing.

It’s unknown how long the little kitten had been trapped down there, but the staff said four hours had passed from the first time they heard the meow to the rescue. The kitten, who is thought to be just five weeks old, is very friendly and affectionate. They named him Cookie and gave him food and water.

He is now in foster care with Groom, one of the rescuers, and once he is old enough, he will be put up for adoption. Whoever gets to adopt him will be one lucky family! Just look at that face!!
