Summer is one of my favorite seasons; relaxing in the sunshine with a cold drink in your hand, listening to some music on the radio. But with summer comes extreme heat, especially in Phoenix, Arizona.

And what better way to cool off than taking a nice, refreshing dip in a pool? These eight shelter dogs – Rogue, Greyson, Bean, Henry, Loki, Ozzi, Benito and Polo – got to do just that!

The dogs are currently being cared for by Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, but this past week, they were all invited to a paw-some pool party at the Second Home Pet Resort.

There was a volunteer there for each dog who accompanied them during their play time. The pool area is designed just for dogs – with a pool that’s just 18 inches deep, water-side decks, and a waterfall.

The dogs had the time of their lives, running around the pool deck and splashing in the water. This was definitely a breath of fresh air from their normal daily life stuck in the shelter. Shelters can become very stressful for dogs, so it’s nice to get them out and about every once in a while.

“We are grateful to Second Home Pet Resort in Phoenix for giving our dogs a chance to escape the extreme heat,” Melissa Gable, communications supervisor for the shelter, told PEOPLE in an email. “Not only did the pool time keep the dogs cool, it also provided socialization and enrichment away from the shelter environment.”

This was such a great idea, and I’m so glad these pups had such a fun time! Hopefully they all find loving homes ASAP!
