Circus Lion Cub Was Taken To Be Euthanized When No Longer Needed, But Officials Came To Stop Them

Magnus the lion had spent his life being mistreated and abused by a Spanish circus. His life in the circus began just days after he was born, when he was separated from his mother and forced to become a tourist attraction.

But he was abused in more ways than just being forced to perform. Since lion cubs grow very quickly, circus owners wanted to keep him as small as possible, so they fed him yogurt and bread only. This poor diet severely affected his bone and muscle development, and he soon developed a Stenosis of the Esophagus, which causes a narrowing of the esophagus and makes digestion difficult.

Eventually, the cub grew very ill and the circus owners didn’t want him anymore so they took him to be euthanized. Thankfully, Spanish officials interjected and brought the cub to an animal sanctuary. Then they worked together with Let’s Adopt! Global, a global organization, the raise enough funds for a surgery.

Since his first surgery, Magnus’ weight has doubled! He can now eat a kilo of chicken breast chopped into two doses every day, but he will always be chronically ill and will need his meals cut up small for him for the rest of his life.

But of course that’s a small price to pay for now being happy and cared for. Magnus had a strong will to survive and now he never has to worry about being neglected ever again. Watch his journey in the video below:
