He Was Found On A Breeder’s Farm, Barely Clinging To Life. Now, He Can’t Stop Kissing His New Mom!

Libre, a Boston Terrier puppy, was saved by a delivery truck driver who saw him at an Amish dog-breeding facility in Lancaster County. The puppy was in horrible condition, severely emaciated and barely clinging on to life. The truck driver convinced the owners to give him the dog so he could get him help. He then brought the pup to a former humane officer who took him to an emergency animal hospital and contacted Speranza Animal Rescue. Janine Guido, the founder of the rescue, immediately took him to Dillsburg Veterinary Center to get him help. Guido stuck with her decision of helping the poor pup, rather than euthanize him, despite what the vets were saying.

Libre, at just seven weeks old, was suffering from a horrible case of demodectic mange, along with many other infections. He had ulcers in his eyes and maggots in his skin. He was depressed, lethargic, and unstable. Doctors didn’t think he would survive.

But he slowly proved them wrong. Each day, Libre grew bigger and stronger and eventually was able to stand and walk on his own. He loved to be outside and enjoyed feeling the warmth of the sun and grass on his healing body.

During Libre’s recovery, word of his story traveled all over the country through social media, and he gained millions of supporters. A law named after him is in the works that would make Pennsylvania’s animal cruelty laws more strict if it’s passed.

“I wake up shedding tears for you,” Guido wrote on Facebook days after his rescue. “I catch myself dreaming of you running around someday. With a wagging tail. With a smile on your face. And with a light in your eyes.”

Thankfully, that wish came true. Guido even adopted Libre as her own! She brought him home to her large family of seven dogs plus a few fosters. Now, not only does Libre have a loving human and a roof over his head, but he also has so many new doggy friends!

Libre is doing great and is still recovering. He still has a long way to go, but he has the best people by his side to help him through it. He had gone from a helpless little puppy who was barely clinging to life, to this fun and playful pup who can’t stop smiling and wagging his tail!
