A Hairless Hamster Was Left Behind By Family. Now She’s Looking For A Home In Her New Tiny SweaterAshley Maisano
Most hamsters look the same, but Silky is probably unlike any other hamster you’ve seen before. That’s because she is hairless due to a genetic mutation.
Sadly, Silky’s family decided to move and could not take her with them to their new home. They brought her to the Oregon Humane Society in Portland, Oregon, where staffers immediately loved her uniqueness.
Although she isn’t fluffy like hamsters usually are, she is still very cuddly and playful just like any other hamster. But because she has no hair, she needs to be kept in a heated environment and have a diet with high protein to keep her warm.
One day, animal care technician Selene Mejia saw Silky cowered in the corner of her cage. She knew she may have been feeling cold and wanted to do something to help.
That’s when Mejia thought of the genius, adorable idea to crochet Silky her very own little sweater. Now, not only is Silky much warmer, she is also looking very stylish!
Silky has an eye infection at the moment and is getting treated for it. Once it is healed, she will be up for adoption. Silky is extremely lovable and is just like all the other hamsters, except she just needs a little extra care! Hopefully she will find a loving, warm home very soon!
