This 12-year-old Moluccan Cockatoo named Gotcha was neglected, mistreated and abandoned by his former owners. He was rescued in November of 2014 and has been loving his new life ever since.

It was not easy earning his trust and redirecting the negative behavior that was caused in him, but after spending a lot of time together, his new owner was successful in doing so.

Parrots are not meant to live life in cages, nor are they something you can toss away when you get bored. They are a life-long commitment, since they can live 70 years or longer.

Gotcha has come a long way since he was rescued. He was damaged inside and out when he arrived to his new home, but he’s made amazing progress and is a very happy bird now.

You can see more of Gotcha by following him on his Instagram page.

Watch Gotcha and his goofy, happy self in the video below. He’s sure to brighten your day!
