What Do You Think Is A Dog’s Purpose?

In January 2017, the world will be blessed with the film A Dog’s Purpose, based on the book written by W. Bruce Cameron. If your heart is anything like mine, then it will be devoured by the trailer itself. And if you’ve been fortunate enough to read the book then you are prepared for a story that is unlike any other, filled with laughter and tears, and touching dog-human moments that will make the hairs on your skin stand at attention.

The book broke New York Times bestseller rankings and continues to wow its audience. Like the book, the film is cleverly told from a dog’s perspective. A dog, that is brought into the world with great purpose. He begins in one life, as Bailey, and lives fully and happily with his human, Ethan. But like time tends to do, it passes, and he is forced to say goodbye. But what Bailey thinks will be his end is only a passage to another life.

As he lives as different dogs, his humans change and his surroundings change, but his heart remains the same. It becomes apparent that this dog’s purpose is to help, love and inspire… The theme, I believe, many dogs would understand.

The quote: “If I can get you laughing and loving, I have found my purpose,” is absolute perfection. It really does sum up what a dog’s purpose is all about. I cannot wait for the release of this film but for now I will just have to reread the book for the umpteenth time and try to, patiently, survive until January.
