He Was Born With A Crooked Face, But Beneath His Exterior Is An Invincible Spirit And Love Of Life

Cletus may look different than your average dog, but beneath the surface, he’s one amazing pup!

Two-year-old Cletus was born with a crooked nose and a massive overbite. He also has several fused joints, which leaves him shuffling rather than walking normally. But Cletus doesn’t let his disabilities slow him down.

Cletus ended up at the Best Friends Pet Adoption/Spay Neuter Center in Los Angeles after he was brought to a city shelter as a stray. He was examined and treated for a serious respiratory infection, and was he was healthy, he went to live with a foster.

That’s when Cletus’ bubbly personality began to show. Fostering makes a world of a difference for shelter animals. At the shelter, they are nervous and lonely. But once they are put into a normal environment in a loving home, they begin to feel safer and more like real pets.

While Cletus was with his foster, Best Friends still posted his pictures in the hopes that someone would adopt him. That’s when Mark Enrietto and his girlfriend, Summer Esslinger, came across his picture. They had been looking for a dog for quite some time, but hadn’t found their perfect match yet. But when they saw Cletus, they knew he was the one.

But first, they had to confirm that to be true. They went to the center to meet Cletus. And it was clear as day that he really was their perfect match. Enrietto sat on the floor, and Cletus hopped right into his lap.

The couple adopted Cletus, who has since been enjoying his new life in his new home. Cletus loves going to the dog park and running around with the other pups. His outings with his humans help strengthen his legs.

“He’s a little stubborn, he’s the class clown, you can take him anywhere, and, like me, he loves his mom,” Enrietto told Best Friends. Even though Cletus looks different than others, Mark says, “He’s a dog in every way.”
