In June of 2010, A man named Zak was hiking deep inside a narrow canyon in northern Arizona when he discovered a tiny puppy all the way down at the bottom.

The poor stranded pup, who was thought to be around eight months old, was weak and starving, and Zak knew there was no way he was going to let the puppy die.

The details of how the puppy got there are unknown, but since he was down there with no broken bones, it can be assumed that someone put him there.

The man threw a rope down so he could climb closer to the puppy. Once he got him and carried him out of the canyon, he brought him to Page Animal Hospital to receive immediate medical care.

The pup was in very bad shape, but the vets took great care of him and got him back on the right track. But that is not the best news. The man who rescued him decided to give him a forever home and adopt him!

He has so many toys to play with, all the treats he wants, and a new doggy brother, Kohi, to hang out and play with. Ellen DeGeneres was touched by the story and even gave Riley the gift of Halo dog food for life!

Sometimes when something horrible happens in a certain place or while doing a specific thing, people tend to stay away from it. But Riley and his dad brave their past and still hike together in the canyon, making new memories in the place that brought them together in the first place.
