She Was Found In A Cage Wearing A Torture Vest. 12 Years Later, Her Transformation Had Me In Awe!

Caesar the bear had spent her life at a bile farm in China. She was confined to a small cage and never got to see the light of day, or have the freedom to run around like he should.

She had an open wound on her side where they drained bile from her gallbladder for use in traditional Chinese medicine. But the mistreatment didn't stop there.

Caesar also wore a torture vest, a cruel metal cylinder that was strapped around her abdomen. This kept in place the “crude” latex catheter that siphoned out the bile, as well as a metal box to collect it in.

Thankfully, a rescue group named Animals Asia saved her from the bile farm industry in 2004. When they rescued her, she was very unhappy and miserable.

Her stomach was wet and hairless from the painful vest, and she didn’t know what it was like to live the way a normal bear should.

Now, all these years later, Caesar is fully recovered and enjoys her time at their sanctuary in Chengdu. He looks like a whole new bear! She is strong and muscular and has a thick, majestic coat. One of her favorite activities is swimming outside in the sun.

“Seeing a bear shake themselves like this is always a moment full of awe — they're such incredibly beautiful, powerful animals and none more so than Caesar,” Nic Field, director of the group's China bear and vet team, said in a statement. “To see her out in the sunshine — a dozen years on from her rescue — it's hard to imagine her existence back then.”

Sadly, there are an estimated 10,000 bears locked up in China alone, according to Animals Asia. The majority of them are moon bears, but some are brown bears like Caesar. The metal vest she was found in has since been outlawed, but there are still bears trapped in other painful devices.
