Belgian Malinois

The Belgian Malinois is a regal breed who looks quite similar to a German Shepherd. Used as a police and military dog, this breed exhibits alertness and discipline. The Belgian Malinoisis also strong and agile, making him an excellent working dog. Tracking, obedience and conformation are items in which the Belgian Malinois excels. This breed is also known to be a sheep herder on farms.

The Belgian Malinois comes in different color tones, including light brown, dark brown and white combinations with black markings on the hair, face and ears. They stand around 22 to 26 inches at the shoulder.

As a working dog, it is no wonder that the Belgian Malinois is extremely happy when he is in a regular course of work. With that said, the Belgian Malinois is a wonderful family companion, also. They are obedient and easy to train. The Belgian Malinois is also protective of his family members, but is not said to be overly aggressive.

With a coat similar to a German Shepherd, the Belgian Malinois does not require an exorbitant amount of grooming. An occasional brushing will keep the coat looking nice and free from tangles. Professional grooming for bathing, trimming and nail cutting is a good idea, just like with any other dog.

Belgian Malinois is perfect for families who want an obedient dog who can be trained and will stand by his family. When needed as a working dog, those who bring a Belgian Malinois into their lives for work purposes will appreciate the hardworking attributes of this strong breed. Whether you want a Belgian Malinois for your family or for your farm, this dog will fit perfectly within either role.
