2 Is Better Than 1: The Top 3 Benefits of Raising a Kitten and Puppy at The Same Time

If you’re like me, then the choice between adopting a puppy or a kitten can seem impossible. How can you ask someone to choose between the two cutest things in existence? Luckily, you don’t have to. You can have both!

Adopting and then raising both a puppy and a kitten at the same time may sound impossible, but it doesn’t have to be! There are several reasons why you might think two new pets might be too much to handle, but don’t finalize your decision until you have considered the following three benefits of raising both at the same time like my family did.

1. There is less difficulty introducing them to one another and your home.

One of the toughest things about adopting not only a new animal into your home, but a new species, can be introducing and integrating that pet into the home your other pet has already established as their own.

By getting both a kitten and a puppy at the same time, you can help eliminate the tough territorial instinct and introduce them to one another at a young age so they don’t know a life without each other. When an older pet and a new puppy or kitten are first introduced, there can be scuffles, scratches, and fights. However, by getting this out of the way when both animals are young, you can instead improve the odds that they will get along better.

2. House training is taken care of in one fell swoop.

House training a puppy can be difficult, but nothing is more frustrating than adopting and raising one pet to be house trained and then bringing in another just to start the whole process all over again a few years later. Instead, get both pets you know you’ll want at the same time and take care of both house training sessions at once.

3. They become each other’s BFF for life.

Debatably the best benefit of adopting two young pets at the same time, the two newest additions to your family will find lifelong friends in one another. They may even get confused about which species they actually belong to, like my cat did. Raising two pets together means they will have a best (animal) friend for their entire life, and forge an unbreakable animal bond for life, which to me is an incredible gift to bestow on your beloved furry friends.
